My Story

I never meant

for anyone

to read these words.

I never meant

for anyone

to read these words.

For years, they were mine alone.

For years, they were mine alone.

These songs didn't begin as songs.

They began years earlier as poetry.

Not for anyone else to read,

but simply to understand thoughts and feelings

I couldn't explain any other way.

These songs didn't begin as songs.

They began years earlier as poetry.

Not for anyone else to read,

but simply to understand thoughts and feelings

I couldn't explain any other way.

before there were songs

I never kept a journal

I never kept a journal

I wrote poetry.

I wrote poetry.

Not because I wanted anyone else to read it.
It was simply how I learned to make sense of what I was feeling.

I would labor over words until they finally said what my heart couldn't.

Those poems were private.

They weren’t written to become songs.

They were written so I could understand myself.

LIFE GOT LOUDER

The writing became quieter.

The writing became quieter.

The writing became quieter.

Life started asking different things of me.

The bars gave way to classrooms.

The classrooms gave way to a career.

I built a life.

I became a father.

There were victories.

There were mistakes.

There were responsibilities that left little room for quiet.

The poems never disappeared.

I just stopped hearing them.

The Itch Never LEft

I took a few years away from music.

Then one day, I picked up a guitar and started playing again.

Nothing dramatic happened.
The words just started coming.

I wanted to write an album.

I wanted to write an album.

I wanted to write an album.

It was an idea I had carried with me from the years when music was a bigger part of my life.

Not because I thought anyone would hear it.

I just needed something that was mine again.
Something creative. Something productive.

So I started writing.

THE SONGS TOOK SHAPE

One song became another.

One song became another.

At first, I was just writing again.

I wasn't thinking about releasing anything.
I wasn't trying to build an audience.

I was simply following the ideas wherever they went.

But the songs kept coming.

When i shared the songs

Something unexpected happened.

Something unexpected happened.

Something unexpected happened.

For most of my life, writing had been something I did for myself.

It helped me work through things I didn't always know how to say out loud.

But eventually, I let a few people hear the songs.

They shared them with others.

And little by little, I started hearing back from people I didn't expect to hear from.

They weren't just telling me they liked the music.

They were telling me what the songs meant to them.

Something I had always used to make sense of my own life was helping other people make sense of theirs.

That gave me a reason to keep writing.

WHY I KEEP WRITING

Sometimes people need someone else to find the words.

Sometimes people need someone else to find the words.

I’ve lived enough life to know that some things are difficult to put into words.

Some of it comes from my own experiences.
Some of it comes from conversations with other people.

Someone tells me what they’re going through, and something about it stays with me.

So I write.

I spend time with it, trying to understand what’s really underneath it.

Eventually, it becomes a song.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t only writing about what I was feeling anymore.

I was trying to put words to what other people were feeling too.

Maybe that’s the purpose in all of this.

To help someone hear a song and think:

That’s it. That’s what I’ve been trying to say.

Because sometimes hearing someone else say it makes you feel a little less alone.

That's why I write.

THIS IS WHERE I AM NOW

I'm still writing.

I'm still writing.

I don’t know exactly where all of this will lead.

And I'm okay with that.

I’m writing more than I ever have.

Some songs come from my own life.
Others begin with something I see or hear in someone else’s.

But they all start with something that feels worth saying.

I try to be honest.
I try to find the right words.
And I try to write something that means something.

If one of those songs finds someone who needed to hear it, that’s enough for me.

If one of those songs finds someone who needed to hear it, that’s enough for me.

So I’ll keep writing.

So I’ll keep writing.

So I’ll keep writing.

There are still a lot of stories left to tell.

If you’d like to hear where those words ended up, choose where you'd like to listen.

If you’d like to hear where those words ended up, choose where you'd like to listen.

Because sometimes hearing someone else say it makes you feel a little less alone.

Those poems were private.

They weren’t written to become songs.

They were written so I could understand myself.

There are still a lot of stories left to tell.

That gave me a reason to keep writing.

And I'm okay with that.

I’m writing more than I ever have.
